Raw Food Smoothie & Sorbet

Smoothie – Sorbet Recipe Idea.  Healthy snacks for kids and adults too. Returning home from a hot morning at the swap meet I wanted something cool. I remembered I had frozen blueberries in my freezer, but did not want a full on smoothie. What I wanted was something light, cool and a little sweet. I proceeded to put a cup or more of frozen blueberries in the Vita Mix with about 1/3 cup water, 1 tsp of raw honey and 2 tsp of Maple Syrup. I blended it and it hit the spot. But, I couldn’t stop there. I thought, how would this taste with a dose of Barlean’s High Lignan Flax Oil, or how about some yogurt, or protein powder? The experiment began.  First I added 1 tbsp of the Barlean’s High Lignan Flax Oil. Yum. The yogurt didn’t exactly turn me on, but I might try that another time. Then I tried the same ratios of blueberries, sweeteners, water and flax oil with tbsp of vanilla protein powder. Ahhhhh, now we’re talking. This was perfect. I proceeded to transfer all my creations into small glass jars, plastic containers recycled I had from deli foods, and placed them all in the freezer for future cravings.  Click here for Raw Sorbet Recipe. This is a great healthy snacks for kids.  It is dairy free (you can use any type of protein powder), gluten free, very simple and you can prepare a bunch of them ahead of time.

I this was fabulous. I haven’t yet tried Jay Robb’s but I already had a vanilla protein powder that is made from raw sprouted whole grain brown rice protein called Sun Warrior – and I loved it. I love these flax oils you recommend too. I always appreciate how you are able to find genius ways to eat such a variety of healthy foods and have it taste so good. You have added a whole new arsenal of great foods into my diet with these seed powders, oils, etc because it allows me to do what Victoria Boutenko’s “green smoothie” ideas did. And that’s to eat more healthy vegetables and greens and not sacrifice flavor (quite the contrary really!) and also satisfy my sweet tooth and nourish my body at the same time.

One request! I just love Scotch Bonnets/Habaneros. They are so spicy but taste so darn good – and have a sweetness to them! I am always looking for great ideas (especially if it’s a raw food dish) to incorporate these spicy peppers into my diet. I have a great Habanero Salsa I could share too. And if you have any ideas I’d love to hear from you.

Here’s to great health through nutritious living!

Thank you, Jason. I have a couple ideas for the Habaneros. Do you make dehydrated crackers and/or pizza dough (raw food recipe). They would be fabulous in those. I make the buckwheat pizza dough crackers and use them for “everything”, topped with avocado, onion, tomato and the Sea Veggie Mineral Mixture. I have used jalapenos in my green fresh veggie smoothies as well. They might go great with; sprouts, kale leaves, parsley, cilantro, apple, lemon and Habaneros. Throw in a tomato too for a raw, spicy V8 type mixture. Last winter I also cut up jalapenos and put them on all my salads and even cooked veggies. Then one day I just stopped – had enough I guess. I will have to try the Scotch Bonnets/Habaneros. Thanks for the tip and I always welcome a new Salsa recipe. Here are a few more brainstorms:

Put them in a tofu and/or egg salad (if you eat tofu and eggs). If you make seed cheeses, then toss them in there as well. They might go well with curry flavors and thai flavors too. Make a coconut milk (raw or cooked) sauce to serve over sprouted grains or cooked grains. As I think of more I will add to the Blog! Thanks again and remember to Make Every Bite Count. Chef Teton
